Hut 8 reported a quarter with two different stories. Revenue fell, profit jumped. Both happened in the same three months. The NASDAQ and TSX listed company, ticker HUT, released results on November 4.
Profit and revenue moved apart
Revenue for Q3 2026 was $71.1 million. Consensus was $76 million to $77 million, so the top line missed. A year earlier, revenue was $83.5 million. Net income was $189.5 million. Of that, $131.1 million was attributable to Hut 8. In Q3 2025, net income was $50.6 million. The main driver was a $413.8 million gain on digital assets. Bitcoin holdings did the heavy lifting, not site operations. Compute brought in $68.4 million. Power and Digital Infrastructure added $2.7 million. For the first nine months, revenue rose to $217.0 million from $146.6 million.
Beacon Point fills its capacity
The operational news came from Texas. Hut 8 signed a second 352 MW IT lease at its Beacon Point AI data center campus. The tenant is described as high investment grade. That deal completes commercialization of the campus. All planned capacity now has a contracted customer. Across the AI data center portfolio, Hut 8 puts aggregate base-term contract value at about $26.6 billion. Tenant quality matters. A creditworthy counterparty lowers the risk that a long lease goes unpaid.
Bitcoin sales fund buybacks
Hut 8 sold about 954 Bitcoin during the quarter. It used Bitcoin sales to fund roughly $250 million in share repurchases. The company then raised its repurchase authorization to $1 billion. That move suggests management sees more value in its shares than in holding that Bitcoin, perhaps. On financing, Hut 8 closed a $1.07 billion senior secured revolving credit facility in September 2026. A secured credit line gives the company room to maneuver and reduces pressure to sell Bitcoin or issue equity at awkward moments.
What investors may watch
The first thing investors may notice is the gap between headline profit and operating performance. The digital asset gain reflects Bitcoin price movement. It does not show how well Hut 8 runs its sites. Core business went backward year over year, and Compute still makes up most sales. The second point is the backlog. The $26.6 billion contract value is the main bull case, but it depends on leases being paid over time. The third is capital allocation. Selling Bitcoin for buybacks is a clear signal. The credit facility adds flexibility. Hut 8 is repositioning as an energy infrastructure platform for Bitcoin mining and AI or hyperscale data centers. That plan is real, but this quarter shows the difference between asset gains and operations.
