LOBSTR, the Stellar wallet built by Ultra Stellar, has gone live with WalletConnect Pay, making it the first wallet to offer the payments product on Stellar. Users can pay merchants directly from the wallet, according to the announcement. LOBSTR has also been linked to the XRP Ledger community, which may widen awareness of the launch.
Merchant Payments and Bermuda
The rollout comes with a partnership with Penrose Partners. The goal is to bring WalletConnect Pay to merchants in Bermuda. The launch is part of a broader push there. The government wants merchants to rely less on costly card services. That could make direct wallet payments more attractive, though the merchant side is still at the planning stage.
How the Payment Flow Works
WalletConnect Pay on Stellar uses a fee-sponsored design, per the documentation. In practice, the buyer does not need to cover the network fee for the payment. That detail matters for point-of-sale use. A customer can pay without handling extra network costs. The setup may feel closer to a normal checkout, at least from the buyer’s side.
What Comes Next
Bermuda merchant rollout is planned for 2027. That timeline leaves room for testing and for merchant onboarding. For Stellar, the launch adds a working payments route at the point of sale. Still, how widely the integration gets used will depend on rollouts like the Bermuda programme. The merchant side remains at the planning stage, so adoption is not guaranteed. It is a useful step, but not a finished picture.
The announcement points to a payments use case that is live now. It also shows where the work remains. LOBSTR is first with WalletConnect Pay on Stellar. The bigger question is whether merchants and customers use it in daily commerce. For now, the Bermuda plan is the main test case to watch. Perhaps the next year will show whether direct wallet payments can move beyond early trials.
