CoinMarketCap (CMC), the widely used cryptocurrency price tracking site, has announced a new partnership with LitVM, a layer-2 scaling solution built on Litecoin. This collaboration aims to bring smart contracts and decentralized finance (DeFi) to the Litecoin network for the first time. LitVM is joining CMC Labs, an accelerator program that helps promising blockchain projects gain visibility and resources.
LitVM describes itself as the first fully trustless, Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible zero-knowledge rollup on Litecoin. It is built on a modular stack that includes Arbitrum Orbit for scalability, Espresso for decentralized sequencing, Succinct’s SP1 zkVM for validity proofs, and BitcoinOS’ Grail Bridge to securely move LTC between layers. The founders emphasize that every transaction on LitVM is secured by hard money—meaning Litecoin itself—rather than a separate speculative token.
A Step Toward Web3 Programmability
Litecoin has been around for over 14 years and is known for its security and decentralization. But until now, it lacked native support for programmable smart contracts and DeFi applications. LitVM aims to change that. The project has received an endorsement from Litecoin’s creator, Charlie Lee, which adds credibility to its approach.
Rush, CEO of CoinMarketCap, commented on the partnership. He said the team is supportive of LitVM joining CMC Labs and called their EVM-compatible rollup an innovative addition to the rollup landscape. He added that they look forward to working with the LitVM team as they develop their ecosystem.
Expanding Litecoin’s Reach Through Web3
For regular crypto holders, this collaboration could mean easier access to information about Litecoin and its growing DeFi ecosystem. By combining CoinMarketCap’s data and reach with LitVM’s technology, users might find it simpler to understand and track Litecoin’s evolution.
Aztec Amaya, co-founder of LitVM, said being selected for CMC Labs is a major milestone for the project and the broader Litecoin ecosystem. He noted that CoinMarketCap’s resources will be important for introducing what they call “Hard Money Web3” to millions of users and builders globally. The team is now preparing for mainnet launch and expects to grow the LitVM ecosystem with support from CMC Labs.
