Mantle, a blockchain platform that aims to bridge traditional finance with on-chain liquidity, has migrated its Super Portal from LayerZero to Chainlink CCIP. This move is all about improving the security of cross-chain transfers for the $MNT token, which powers the Mantle ecosystem.
The Super Portal was developed in collaboration with Bybit, a major cryptocurrency exchange. It lets users move $MNT between Ethereum and Solana. After the migration, the portal now uses Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Token (CCT) standard. That means every transfer is secured by Chainlink CCIP, which is a decentralized oracle network offering interoperability and security solutions.
Why the Switch?
According to Mantle, the upgrade gives the network full control over its smart contracts and cross-chain token management. That’s a big deal for security. I think it also signals a preference for Chainlink’s reliability over the previous provider, LayerZero. But the specifics of why they chose one over the other aren’t fully detailed. Still, the shift seems to focus on reducing risks during token movements between chains.
Timeline and Temporary Shutdown
The migration is scheduled between July 9 and July 15, 2026. During that window, the Super Portal will be temporarily unavailable. Once the migration wraps up, transfers will automatically resume. So users might want to plan ahead if they need to move tokens around that time.
Long-Term Plans
Mantle said the upgrade also prepares the network for future expansion to additional blockchains. Beyond the immediate improvement, it supports Mantle’s broader goal of building infrastructure for tokenized real-world assets and institutional finance. That feels like a longer play, but it’s consistent with the growing interest in bringing traditional assets on-chain.
Over all, this is a technical update that probably won’t affect daily users much, except for the brief downtime. But for those watching security and cross-chain standards, it’s a notable shift.
