Telefónica Tech Joins Forces with Polygon’s Privado ID for Digital Identity Solutions
Spanish telecom giant Telefónica, through its digital business unit Telefónica Tech, has integrated Polygon’s identity solution, Privado ID, into its blockchain platform, TrustOS. Announced on September 10, 2024, this collaboration aligns with the European Union’s push towards a universal digital identity system, the European Digital Identity Regulation, set to launch by November 2024.
The integration focuses on developing proofs-of-concept for various digital identity applications, including age verification, e-signature solutions, and the issuance of verifiable credentials like diplomas and certifications. These can be stored in digital wallets, offering users more control over their data when interacting with public services.
Privado ID: Enhancing Digital ID Privacy with Zero-Knowledge Cryptography
Privado ID uses zero-knowledge cryptography, allowing users to prove certain personal details—like age or citizenship—without revealing unnecessary data. This aligns with the EU Digital Identity Wallets’ goal of giving citizens more privacy and control over their digital identities. The initiative is expected to standardize and secure identity verification across the European Union, enhancing trust services and electronic identification.
With this integration, Telefónica Tech is positioning itself to support the next generation of secure and compliant digital identity solutions, as Europe moves closer to implementing the framework. Polygon’s digital ID service has already been tested in collaborations with major financial institutions like Deutsche Bank and ConsenSys.
